On the Fly Kennels gives priority placement of puppies to hunting homes. As we are a small breeder, we are only able to accept a limited number of applications for each litter. We will do everything in our power to make sure that our puppy buyers get the puppy that best fits their lifestyle and personal preferences. If we are unable to provide a puppy to a prospective buyer, we will be happy to refer you to another reputable breeder that may be able to assist.
Applicants will be contacted once the confirmation of pregnancy has been provided by our fertility vet. This usually takes place around 30 days after breeding. Updates will be provided on a regular basis via email and or our On the Fly Kennels Facebook page. Puppies can be expected to go to their permanent homes between the 8th and 10th week.
Puppies will be micro-chipped, wormed, vaccinated (1st shots), and have their dew claws removed. The puppy will also be registered with the SMCNA and NAVHDA and the buyer will be provided with vaccination records, a schedule for additional vaccinations, and a copy of the dog training book titled The Training and Care of the Versatile Hunting Dog.
We sell to only responsible owners and use the “Breeding Restriction” registration offered by the NAVHDA registry. All of our puppies are sold with the understanding that On the Fly Kennels retains the first right of refusal should the new owner not be able to provide their dog with a home at any age. Refunds for puppies or dogs returned to us will solely be at our discretion and refunds are based on the age and condition of the dog when it is returned.
The Buyer agrees to have this puppy's hips radiographically evaluated after it turns 2 years old and submitted to the OFA or radiographically evaluated after 1 year and submitted to Penn Hip for evaluation before using the puppy for breeding purposes. If the dog is determined to have hip dysplasia, or other genetic disease as determined by a licensed veterinarian, the dog will be replaced with another dog of a future breeding (Buyer may keep said dog), or half of the purchase price will be used for surgical correction and the dog will be spayed or neutered. Documentation must be sent to On the Fly Kennels to confirm the diagnosis. This clause shall remain in effect for three years from the date of birth of said dog. Any health problems will be reported to the On the Fly Kennels and to the Genetic Health Project (GHP) of the SMCNA.
Puppies we sell go to their new homes having already been exposed to people of all ages, other dogs and pets, water, dog crates, gunfire, birds, etc. We release our puppies to their new owner(s) after 8-10 weeks of age.
The price of our puppies of hunting/breeding quality varies depending on the proven hunting ability of the pairing, cost of breeding depending on the proven hunting ability of the pairing, cost of breeding (A.I. or cover breeding) and the cost of stud fees/importing semen.
Our purchase price includes the health guarantee and training advice/help from us for the life of the dog. We do require a $300 deposit to hold a puppy for you and the balance must be paid for before or when the puppy is picked up or shipped. The Buyer is responsible for the additional cost of shipping and any additional costs if we board the puppy after 12 weeks of age. Please contact us if you have questions and we look forward to working with you and your puppy from On the Fly Kennels.
On the Fly Kennels reserves the right to select pups for buyers but will try to accommodate your choice. The final decision on which homes the pups will go to will not be made until the weekend of the 8th week. This allows us to evaluate each puppy to make sure that they are a good fit for the homes they are sent to. We allow buyers to choose a male or female pup and to give their feedback as to which pups they like. Buyers are assured of the sex they want but I reserve the right to make the final selection on which pup.
